The ACE Foundation - Bermuda concentrates its efforts where they’re needed the most — at home on the island of Bermuda.
The Foundation’s support covers a wide range of needs in Bermuda including, health care, human services, education, substance abuse, arts and culture and the environment. Through employee matching gifts and volunteer reward programs, educational programs and scholarships, and financial support of up to 75 registered charitable organizations per year, the ACE Foundation - Bermuda helps take care of its community. Since its formation in 1997 the ACE Foundation has supported many Bermuda-based charities and donated nearly $20 million to local causes and projects.
Foundation Grants The core of the Foundation’s work in the community is the ongoing support of charities in Bermuda that focus on a wide cross section of needs throughout our community. In February of 2009 the Foundation will be launching our new grant application form designed to assist charities to focus on setting attainable goals with expected outcomes. The Foundation will place a strong emphasis on those charities that are able to clearly demonstrate these assets as well as a focus on social needs. Career Paths In February 2005, the Foundation took a major step-up in our involvement with education, and in partnership with the Ministry of Education launched the ACE Career Paths programme. This programme combined all of our education related projects with the ultimate goal of making a significant positive impact on the number of students who are not able to reach their true potential.
The ACE Student Loan Project:
- One of the components of the Career Paths programme was the introduction in 2005 of student loan, a one time offer, which provided opportunities more than 90 students to achieve post secondary school education in the United States, Canada and other parts of the world. The ACE Foundation – Bermuda supports these loans, issued by Butterfield Bank, by paying interest until one year after graduation when the students begin their loan payments. Many students have now graduated and have begun to take their places within the Bermuda workforce.
The ACE Foundation – Bermuda Annual Career Fair
Another of the programmes launched in 2005 was the annual student Career Fair , designed for all high school and senior middle school students. Working with the Ministries of Education and Labour and Training, The Foundation took a leading role in reformatting the Career Fair at its new location, the Bermuda College. Some 55 companies and organizations man 80 + booths which expose the students to the many career opportunities in Bermuda. Each year an average of 2,500 students (approximately 25% of all students in Bermuda) attend the event which has received Government recognition. This major annual event, led by the Foundation was only possible because of the tremendous financial support from both the public and private sectors and numerous community volunteers.
The Career Paths programme speaks to The Foundation’s commitment to the students of Bermuda and a strong belief that Bermuda will continue to succeed when our young people are able to rise to the peak of their potential. www.careerpaths.bm
Employee Programmes
The Foundation also encourages ACE employees to support the community through its internal programmes. We were extremely delighted to launch a third programme in 2007 to celebrate the Foundation’s 10th anniversary.
Employee Matching Gifts Programme The Foundation’s Matching Gift Programme matches up to $5,000 of employees’ personal donations to recognised charities around the world per year.
A Gift for Time Programme The Gift for Time Programme supports employee volunteerism by donating $500 towards any charity where an ACE employee has volunteered a minimum of 25 hours a year. A further extension to this programme has been made with a total of $1,000 awarded to a charity where an employee volunteers for 50 hours or more. A smaller grant of $200 can also be awarded to a charity where an ACE employee has volunteered for more than 10 hours during the year
Employee Volunteer Programme This new employee programme was launched by the ACE Foundation - Bermuda in June 2007 to commemorate our 10th anniversary of supporting the Bermuda community. It is designed to support our employees’ volunteer pursuits by enabling them to spend 8 hours per year, during work time, to participate in community volunteer programmes.
The ACE Foundation plans to continue its commitment to the Bermuda community in 2009. We thank our many community partners and ACE’s Employees for their volunteer support. We would also like to thank and encourage the charities in Bermuda for their dedication and commitment to ensuring a vibrant and secure future for our island home.
